All over New Zealand there are school halls and community theatres still running tungsten rigs installed decades ago — lamps that are increasingly hard to source, dimmers that predate the internet, and power bills that make boards wince. The good news: LED theatre lighting has properly matured, and switching is more straightforward than most venues expect.
Why now, in three numbers
An LED profile draws a fraction of the power of the tungsten unit it replaces, produces far less heat (your ceiling insulation and your summer matinée audience will both notice), and its “lamp” lasts tens of thousands of hours. For a venue that pays its own power bill and its own electrician, the fixtures fund themselves over their service life.
The front-of-house workhorses

The Ovation REVE F-3 fresnel gives you the soft, shapeable wash tungsten fresnels were loved for — with full colour mixing, so gel frames become a memory. For crisp gobos and hard-edged specials, the REVE E-3 ellipsoidal takes interchangeable lens tubes, meaning one fixture body serves every throw distance in the building. There are IP-rated versions too, if your “theatre” sometimes means the courtyard.
Don't let the console be an afterthought
Colour-mixing fixtures need more than a two-preset fader wheel.
